OGARYOVO, May 14 - The Russo-Armenian big deal - "the Armenian debt
written off in exchange for its property" enables to develop both
military-technical cooperation and economic cooperation in general,
Armenian President Robert Kocharyan said at a meeting with President
Putin.
"Very interesting projects are under way in the economics sector - such
as the Russia's big Vneshtorgbank expanding its activities to Armenia,"
he said. A very interesting contract has been signed in the chemistry
sector that heralded creation of big chemical industry in Armenia
with the help of Russian investments. There are other interesting
projects that are a good example of the investment activities of
Russian businessmen in the construction and other sectors in Armenia,
Kocharyan said.
"All these projects were started by the big deal - the Armenian debt
off in exchange for property. Until recently, we had been talking
about a military-technical component of cooperation and complaining
that the economics had been lagging behind," Kocharyan said.
"Now, I can say with confidence that we have been synchronously making
headway on all the positions", the Armenian president stressed.
In a separate statement. Robert Kocharyan congratulated Vladimir Putin
on being elected president of Russia for a second term." I would
like to thank you for the invitation and congratulate you on first
steps in your new four-year period and the opening of "a new season",
Kocharyan said.
The Armenian president is the first foreign guest to visit President
Putin after his inauguration as the Russian president held on May 7.
Robert Kocharyan arrived in Moscow at the invitation of President
Putin on Thursday. The Armenian president will also meet Prime Minister
Mikhail Fradkov, Gazprom Board Chairman Aleksei Miller and President
of Itera group Igor Makarov. Both Miller and Makarov are the heads
of the companies that ensure supply of Russian gas to Armenia.
