ARMENIA BUYS TWO MILITARY PLANES FROM RUSSIA

Yerevan, 20 May: Two IL-76 military transport planes, which Armenia
had purchased from Russia "in accordance with the procedure existing
within the framework of the Collective Security Treaty Organization
(CSTO)" arrived in Yerevan today, Mediamax news agency quoted Russian
Defence Minister Sergey Ivanov as saying during a briefing in Yerevan
today. He said that "the Armenian side had purchased these planes at
Russia's domestic prices".
According to Ivanov, he and his Armenian counterpart, Serzh Sarkisyan,
discussed "directions for the further development of relations between
the defence ministries of the two countries, including within the
framework of the CIS and CSTO".
Ivanov added that the talks focused their major attention on the state
of and the prospects for bilateral military and military-technical
cooperation. According to Ivanov, he also discussed the operation
of the 102nd Russian military base deployed in Armenia.
