Asked as to "whether the Armenian court system can be regarded
as independent when it issues rulings dependent on the political
situation", Justice Minister David Arutyunyan has said: "I believe
that it is early to say that the Armenian courts are independent. There
is no need to conceal things.
"However, measures are being taken in this direction. Had we an
independent court system, it would not be expedient to speak about
legal reforms." Arutyunyan said that our society cannot put up
with the fact that our courts are not free. "The political situation
affects even the most independent courts," the minister said.
