Azeri leader meets new head of Organization of Islamic Conference in Qatar

Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev received the new secretary-general
of the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC), Ekmeleddin
Ihsanoglu, in Doha, Qatar, today. The sides discussed the development
of cooperation between Azerbaijan and the OIC, the forthcoming summit
of the organization and the Nagornyy Karabakh settlement process.
Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu said he would take office as the OIC
secretary-general in January 2005 and would try to facilitate the
development of relations with Azerbaijan.
Ilham Aliyev is paying an official visit to Qatar. After a
face-to-face meeting with the emir of Qatar, Hamad Bin-Khalifah Al
Thani, and negotiations in the expanded format, six bilateral
documents will be signed in the areas of economy, culture, tourism,
health, foreign ministry consultations and cooperation between the
Olympic committees.
