Yerevan's first instance court of Kentron, Nork-Marash decided Monday
to release Edgar Arakelyan from jail ahead of time.

Edgar, 24, has been convicted of hitting a police officer with
empty plastic bottle while attending a demonstration on April 12 and
sentenced to one year and six months in prison regardless the fact
    of self-defense.

After serving one third of his punishment he had his prison term
    curtailed.

The judge stressed that he made the decision taking into account
    Edgar's good conduct.

The detainee showed no emotions when heard the decision on supervised
    release.

Just today he heard from Azatutyun radio station that the issue is
to be put under the court consideration. Everything was kept secret
and only two journalists and one photographer were present in the
courtroom. Neither Edgar's attorney nor his relatives and fellow
partisans attended the session: Armenian People Party knew nothing
    about imminent decision.

Edgar told our correspondent he remains stuck to his principles and
intends to keep struggling. "Persecutors and those who have beaten
me must answer for that", he said.
