HARVEST GALLERY presents Ararat Sarkissian's "Paradise Lost"
Artist Reception: Friday, April 15, 2005 - 6:00pm - 10:00pm
Exhibition Dates: April 15, 2005 - April 30, 2005
Harvest Gallery: 938 North Brand Blvd., Glendale, CA
Glendale, CA (March 25) - Harvest Gallery is proud to present a
moving exhibition - "Paradise Lost" - by artist Ararat Sarkissian
commemorating the 90th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide from
April 15, 2005 through April 30, 2005 in Glendale, California.
"Paradise Lost" features landscapes, cityscapes and memories lost
following the genocide of 1.5 million Armenians living in Ottoman
Turkey. Bearing the names of Armenian towns and villages including
Ayntap, Marash and Moosh, "Paradise Lost" takes the viewer on a
historical, urban journey of life prior to 1915.
"Sarkissian's landscapes and city views rise out of misty white
canvases, like ancient ghosts coming alive in the twilight. He
evokes the myths of Armenian history in order to prove that this
deep heritage effects contemporary life as strongly as ever," says
art critic Kathryn Hixson.
Born in 1956, Sarkissian is a graduate of the School of Fine Arts
and the Panos Terlemezian Fine Arts College in Yerevan, Armenia. His
paintings have been displayed in numerous solo and group exhibitions
throughout the world including in Cyprus, France, Germany, Greece,
Iran, Japan, Russia, Spain and the United States. Sarkissian's work
is also exhibited in several collections including in the Museum of
Modern Art of Armenia, the National Art Gallery of Kazakhstan as well
as in private collections in the United States and Europe.
"Paradise Lost" will be on display from Friday, April 15, 2005 through
Saturday, April 30, 2005. Gallery hours are Tuesday - Sunday from
11:00 am to 7:00 pm.
