Teenager killed, another wounded by land mine blast in Azerbaijan

    AP Worldstream; Aug 01, 2005

A 14-year-old boy was killed and his 12-year-old brother gravely
wounded when an anti-tank mine exploded in southwestern Azerbaijan,
    a government agency said Monday.

The boys were grazing cattle in the village of Chirgali, about 370
kilometers (230 miles) southwest of the capital Baku, on Sunday when
the mine exploded, the government agency charged with liquidating
mines said in a statement. Emin Suleimanov was instantly killed and
his brother Elvin was seriously injured, it said.

The incident occurred in a region that saw heavy fighting between
Armenia and Azerbaijan during the six-year war over the disputed
Nagorno-Karabakh enclave. The war ended in a 1994 cease-fire after
    some 30,000 people were killed.

Mines from the war are still found on Azerbaijan's territory. Between
October 2001 and July, 42 Azerbaijanis have died and 72 have been
    wounded in land mine explosions
