The president of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe,
Rene van der Linden, has called on the Azerbaijani media to convince
the public to support a peaceful solution to the Nagornyy Karabakh
conflict.
In an interview with the "Point of View" programme on private ANS TV
on 23 August, Van der Linden said: "The media must support a peaceful
approach and not to give the impression that a military solution is
possible. The latter should be ruled out."
The official said that ahead of the November parliamentary election,
Azerbaijan should guarantee freedom of assembly, stop putting pressure
on the opposition in regions and address the problem of voting lists.
