FIRST CHANNEL OF ARMENIAN PUBLIC TELEVISION RANKS SECOND IN RATING OF
POPULARITY IN YEREVAN
YEREVAN, FEBRUARY 4. ARMINFO. "First Channel" of the Armenian Public
Television is in the second place in the rating of popularity in
Yerevan, yielding to Armenian TV insignificantly. At the same time,
APT "First Channel" is the most popular in Gyumri and Vanadzor,
testify the results of a survey in the two largest towns and in the
capital of Armenia by an American organization InterMedia in December
2004. 500 respondents above interrogated 15 during the survey in each
town.
According to Yerevan Press Club, during a week, 86.8% of audience in
Yerevan watches the programs of the "First Channel," 82.8% in Gyumri
and 93.3% in Vanadzor. The most popular TV channels in Yerevan in a
week are "Armenia" TV and "RTR" (Russia), in Gyumri - "Shant" and
"Second Armenian TV Channel," in Vanadzor - First Russian channel and
"Second Armenian TV Channel." As to news programs, APT "First Channel"
and "Armenia TV" are in the lead; in Gyumri it is "Shant" and Vanadzor
- "First Channel of Russia." The survey showed that Gyumri
characterizes the local TV companies "Tsayg" and "Shant" as
independent and objective. 44% of respondents in Vanadzor mention the
local TV Company "Lori" as "not professional," 41% - "interesting."
Another TV company in Vanadzor is often called "reliable and
interesting."
According to the survey, 87% of respondents in Yerevan watch TV every
day, 77% in Gyumri, and 70% in Vanadzor. 61% of respondents in Yerevan
have an access to at least 14 TV channels; the possibilities in Gyumri
and Vanadzor are to some extent limited, that is, less than 14
channels. In all the three towns, the rush time for watching TV
programs is the period from 20:00 to 23:00. The respondents under 30
consider entertaining programs the most important for them. Majority
of respondents in Yerevan, Gyumri and Vanadzor called publicity
"annoying and boring."
