Pilibos Armenian School: Kicking off the 35th Anniversary With Music
and Martinis
Los Angeles, CA -- On January 29th members of the Rose and Alex Pilibos
Armenian School community gathered together to kick off the school's
thirty-fifth anniversary celebrations at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Takvor
and Armine Bedrossian. With over two hundred parents, alumni, and
supporters enjoying live music and martinis, the evening was a
celebration of 35 years of growth and success in the heart of the
Armenian community of Los Angeles.
The evening began with a blessing and well-wishes from Reverend Father
Viken Vassilian of Saint Garabed Armenian Apostolic Church and continued
with Dr. Maral Babian, the school counselor, welcoming and thanking the
guests for their continued support. Dr. Babian also gave the audience a
sneak preview of the 35th Anniversary Gala which will be held on May
1st, 2005 at Universal Studios with a special red-carpet entrance for
members of the Pilibos community.
The evening continued with the school principal, Dr. Viken Yacoubian,
thanking parents and alumni for their continued support towards
realizing the dream of building a school. "The 35th anniversary is a
time to celebrate the small school that started with a handful of
students and grew to become one of the best schools in the Armenian
Diaspora" noted Dr. Yacoubian. "Today, with your support, our students
are amongst the best, brightest, and most competitive students in the
United States. However, the 35th anniversary presents an opportunity
for our community to dream again and begin a new phase of Armenian
education in America" stated Dr. Yacoubian.
Throughout the evening recent graduates and alumni reconnected with
long-time members of the faculty while remembering the hopeful early
years of attending classes in a small home on Garfield Street. The
gracious hosts and members of the alumni, Mr. and Mrs. Bedrossian
recalled that "the difficulties in the early years, such as classes in
bungalows, strengthened our friendships with classmates and teachers
alike, particularly, our Armenian language and history teacher Mr.
Haigaz Terterian. We're proud to be part of the Pilibos dream that has
become a reality."
With an enrollment of over 750 students from kindergarten through 12th
grade, the Rose and Alex Pilibos Armenian School serves children and
families throughout the Hollywood and greater Los Angeles community.
