RESIDENTS OF YEREVAN'S NORAGAVIT COMMUNITY RALLY AGAINST ENLARGMENT OF
EREBUNI AIRPORT RUNWAY AT THE EXPENSE OF THEIR LANDS
YEREVAN, FEBRUARY 10. ARMINFO. Residents of Yerevan's Noragavit community
held a demonsration in front of the armenian Government building today demanding
compensation for their lost land plots.
They says that in 2001-2002 they were promised compensation for the use of
their lands (22 h) for enlarging the runway of Yerevan's Erebuni airport. But
they have received nothing so far.
The chief civil aviation department refuses to comment on the issue saying
that the Erebuni airport is managed by the Defence Ministry. The DM press
service promises to give information in a few days.
It should be noted that presently the airport is used by Russian military
men. As far as ARMINFO knows the Armenian Government is preparing it for civil
passenger flights. The runway has been restored and enlarged, the same is for
the passenger terminals. The operation of an alternative civil airport in
Armenia is stipulated by the EU under the Partnership and Cooperation Agreement.
