Karabakh calls on Azerbaijan to reject policy of confrontation

YEREVAN
The Nagornyy Karabakh Republic [NKR] parliament has called on the
Azerbaijani authorities "to reject a short-sighted policy of
confrontation and make efforts to establish peace and stability, the
atmosphere of confidence and tolerance in the region".
A statement of the NKR parliament was adopted in connection with the
17th anniversary of the beginning of the national liberation struggle
of the Nagornyy Karabakh people for self-determination.
The NKR parliament again confirms the Nagornyy Karabakh people's
determination to build an independent and democratic state on the
basis of the right for free self-determination, the statements reads.
The statement expressed hope that the international community will
give its worthy assessment to the NKR people's efforts to build a
law-governed state and civil society and show understanding of the
republic's efforts to be a member of this community.
On 28 February 1988 the extraordinary session of the regional council
of deputies of the Nagornyy Karabakh Autonomous Region adopted a
decision to transfer the region from the Azerbaijani SSR to the
Armenian SSR.
