PRIMATE ANNOUNCES TSUNAMI RELIEF EFFORT IS ALREADY UNDERWAY
Sydney, Australia - Primate of the Diocese of the Armenian Church of
Australia and New Zealand, His Eminence Archbishop Aghan Baliozian announced
on New Year's day "The relief effort by the Diocese to bring much-needed aid
to the victims of the tsunami disaster is well underway."
On Sunday, 2 January, 2005 a special prayer service was held at the Armenian
Apostolic Church of Holy Resurrection for the victims of the tsunami
tragedy, their families and friends, and all aid workers. Archbishop Aghan
appealed to the conscience of his congregation to bring every, possible
assistance to the relief effort.
"Love is an attitude that reveals itself in action," says Archbishop Aghan.
"By helping others and giving, we show the type of love that God expects
from each and every one of us. We must get involved in order to help
others. It is important that we act immediately and big-heartedly in light
of the mammoth devastation that has hit the regions of Indonesia, Thailand,
Sri Lanka, India and beyond."
Mindful of St Paul's command to the faithful of Galatia, "carry each other's
burdens, and in this way you will fulfil the law of Christ"(Galatians 6:2),
Armenians in Australia and around the world are called to dig deep in their
pockets and bring their contribution to help restore the shattered lives
caused by this disaster, in the same way that humanity came to the aid of
the Armenian people after the earthquake of 1988.
Donations to the relief effort can be made in person or by post to:
