PRESIDENT OF AZERBAIJAN ILHAM ALIYEV RECEIVES OSCE MG DELEGATION
[January 28, 2005, 20:35:39]
President of the Azerbaijan Republic Ilham Aliyev on January 29 has
received at the Presidential Palace the delegation of the `OSCE Minsk
Group fact-finding mission on illegal settlement of the Armenians in
Nagorny Karabakh and other regions of Azerbaijan occupied by
Armenia', and persons accompanying them.
Head of the Azerbaijan State expressed hope that the visit of the
fact-finding mission would be useful. President of Azerbaijan
stressed the importance of the current format of talks on settlement
of the Armenia-Azerbaijan, Nagorny Karabakh conflict with involvement
of the foreign ministers. President Ilham Aliyev underlined adherence
of Azerbaijan to its position, emphasizing that this position bases
on the international legal principles - territorial integrity of
countries and inviolability of borders. Noting that illegal
settlement of the Armenians in the occupied territories will be one
of the greatest obstacles for gaining long-term peace, the President
of Azerbaijan stressed his confidence that the fact-finding mission
would become familiar with the situation in the occupied territories,
which would, in turn, speed up putting an end to illegal activities
of the Armenian side in the said areas. Wishing success to the
mission, the Head of State restated that its visit would be useful.
Speaking on behalf of the Minsk Group co-chairs, the Russian co-chair
Yuri Merzlyakov said the proposals of the Azerbaijan President on the
current processes of talks on settlement of the conflict and the
activity of the fact-finding mission was very important. He thanked
the Head of Azerbaijan State for the documents professionally
prepared by the governmental structures for the mission and said that
`these are very important for activity of the fact-finding mission in
the occupied territories around Nagorny Karabakh'. Further, noting
that the Minsk Group will increase its efforts in this direction, Mr.
Yuri Merzlyakov expressed hope for useful results in the peace
negotiations due to mutual serious efforts of the conflict sides.
