Should we get involved in globalization?

These days, Scotland hosting the G-8 summit is in the focus of the
world media. But many are less interested in the outcome of the summit
than in the protests of anti-globalists. Opinions on this matter are
strikingly polarized, and the same is true for our society.
One side considers that the globalization brings only positive
consequences, and we should do everything to engage fully in the
process. The critics, however, are sure that the globalization is
completely negative; it is an evil we should keep away from. Both
views seem to be equally far from the truth. Globalization certainly
carries many positive things, and failure to notice and use them is at
least unwise.
But globalization also brings many negative things for small nations,
and it would be dangerous to ignore them. Staying away from
globalization is impossible simply because we are already involved in
it. We are to make a choice: to keep pointing to good and bad sides of
globalization thus becoming a mere object of the process, or we must
become an active subject of the process and try to minimize the
negative affects while maximizing the positive ones.
The first option is quite easy; we actually have not much to do, and
as a society and state, we could just watch others develop. In case we
choose the second option, we may become a developed country and
society. But to do so, we first need to establish a well-organized
state and society to guarantee development.
