AGBU MONTRÉAL LEADERSHIP HONORED BY CANADIAN PARLIAMENT
Montréal, Canada - On April 18th, 2005, on the occasion of Canada's
National Volunteer Week, a special ceremony was held to honor exemplary
community volunteers for their outstanding contributions to Canadian
society, including three members of AGBU Montréal. Presented with
special Canadian House of Commons certificates by Member of Parliament
(MP) Eleni Bakopanos were Viken L. Attarian, Chapter Chairman;
Mr. Hagop Melkonian, Treasurer; and Sonia Boulos, Chair of AGBU
Montréal's Golden Age Committee.
"This is a proud moment for AGBU because it demonstrates the
dedication of our volunteers to serve their fellow citizens. I
should also like to mention that most associations had either one
or, at most, two members recognized; AGBU was the only one that had
three of its members honored. This shows the high esteem that AGBU
enjoys in Canadian society. We thank the Canadian government for this
distinction, which is really a recognition that should go to all of
the hundreds of AGBU Montréal volunteers," Attarian said proudly.
Founded in 1957, AGBU Montréal is dedicated to preserving and promoting
the Armenian heritage and culture through educational, cultural,
and humanitarian programs within the greater Montréal region. For
