Yerevan, 6 May: "The USA attaches great importance to the development
of relations with Armenia," the US ambassador to Armenia, John Evans,
said during the opening ceremony of the embassy's new building in
Yerevan today.
Evans said that Armenia has made significant progress in implementing
political and economic reforms over the last 13 years, Mediamax
reports. "The USA is also pleased with Armenia's participation in the
fight against international terrorism, as well as its contribution
to the reconstruction of Iraq," the US ambassador said.
Evans confirmed America's readiness to facilitate the settlement
of the Nagornyy Karabakh conflict and normalize Armenian-Turkish
relations. The ambassador believes that in order to achieve a solution
to the Karabakh problem, Yerevan and Baku should make compromises. At
the same time, he added that the USA "does not intend to impose a
solution to the conflict on the sides".
Armenian Foreign Minister Vardan Oskanyan said today that the opening
of the new US embassy building testifies to the USA's intention to
bolster relations with Armenia and is a "special contribution to
the future".
