ISTANBUL (AA) - European Commissioner for Enlargement Olli Rehn
has indicated that there are two conditions at the beginning of
negotiations for Turkey. "I am confident that Turkey will meet the
conditions," said Rehn.
"The first condition has to do with legal reforms. The second one is
about the signing of additional protocol of the Ankara Agreement. I
had a chance to discuss this issue with Mr. Abdullah Gul. Gul assured
me that the protocol will be signed by October 3rd," stated Rehn.
In reference to the Armenian issue, Rehn stressed that he hopes a
constructive dialog will take place between the prime ministers of
Turkey and Armenia.
Asked by a journalist at the Forum Istanbul 2005 conference on who
will be EU's major competitors in the year 2023, Rehn replied that
the U.S., China and India will be the major competitors.
