US TO GIVE ARMENIA $85-90 MILLION AID IN 2005

YEREVAN, MAY 18, ARMENPRESS : In response to an Armenpress correspondent
about how much money will be allocated to Armenia by the government of the
USA in the form of assistance in 2005 the US ambassador John Evans said :
"The U.S. Government allocated approximately 90 million dollars (through
several U.S. agencies including USAID and the Department of Agriculture) in
Fiscal Year 2004. The three main goals of our assistance programs continue
to be regional stability and security, economic reform and growth and
strengthening democratic institutions. In addition, the U.S. Government
continues humanitarian support for some of the country's most vulnerable
populations. The U.S. Government expects to dedicate a similar sum (in the
range of 85-90 million dollars) in assistance funding to Armenia in Fiscal
Year 2005, which ends October.
