OSKANIAN: WE SEE NO CONNECTION BETWEEN EUROPEAN CONSTITUTION AND TURKEY'S
ACCESSION TO EU
24.05.2005 04:51
/PanARMENIAN.Net/ «I understand very well the apprehensions of Armenians of
France and the French themselves due to the opportunity of Turkey's
accession to the European Union,» stated Armenian Foreign Minister Vartan
Oskanian, reported Armenpress news agency. `We also expressed our concern
over Turkey not meeting European standards, specifically, in the issue of
acknowledgement of the Armenian Genocide and lifting the blockade of the
Armenian border. However, we do not see any connection between the
referendum over adoption of the European Constitution and Turkey's accession
to the EU,' the Armenian FM added. On the contrary, the Armenian party
supposes that the role of France at the European arena will increase upon
the adoption of the Constitution, «which is beneficial to us, as France has
always come for raising Armenian issues at the international arena and
supported these, specifically, Armenia's integration into European
structures.»
