ARMENIA CANNOT HELP BEING CONCERNED WITH WITHDRAWAL OF RUSSIAN
MILITARY UNITS FROM GEORGIA: LEVON MKRTCHYAN
YEREVAN, MAY 27. ARMINFO. The withdrawal of Russian military units
from Georgia is an issue concerned only Moscow and Tbilisi, stated the
leader of the ARFD faction Levon Lazarian at today's briefing at
Armenia's National Assembly.
He stressed that Armenia cannot help being concerned with this issue,
as these units are deployed in Georgia's Armenian-populated
Samtskhe-Javakhetia region. Mktrchyan noted that the presence of
Russian military units in Javakhetia, first of all, settles people's
employment issues. Besides, it also settles issues of security of
Javakhetia's Armenian people. Lazarian stressed that these issues may
be solved if Georgia's authorities undertake necessary steps on their
integration into the country's social and political and economical
life.
As regards the possibility of the re-deployment of a part of these
units to Armenia, Lazarian stressed that this issue should be solved
only between Moscow and Yerevan on the base of an interstate
agreement. -r-
