COE APPRECIATES DECREE OF AZERBAIJAN PRESIDENT ON IMPROVEMENT OF ELECTION PRACTICE

Speaker of the Azerbaijan Parliament Murtuz Alaskarov received on
September 5 the visiting Secretary General of the Council of Europe
Terry Davis.
Highlighting the guest on preparation for the upcoming elections, Mr.
Alaskarov said all measures had been taken to conduct democratic and
transparent parliamentary elections in Azerbaijan. He informed on
the Presidential document on improvement of the election practice,
functioning of public TV, registration of more than 2000 candidates
to elections and expressed hope that the foreign observers would
watch democratic and free elections.
Then, Murtuz Alaskarov spoke of the reforms in the country, the
accomplishments reached, and the problems as a result of the Armenian
occupation. All the international organizations should recognize
Armenia as an aggressor state and have influence on it. And the
Council of Europe should make more serious efforts for settlement of
the conflict, the Speaker underscored.
Mr. Terry Davis mentioned that this visit is connected to the
elections. He said the Council of Europe highly appreciates the Order
of the Azerbaijan on the improvement of election practice. And we
want to watch democratic and transparent elections, he stressed.
Then, the guest spoke of the meetings he held in Baku.

the chairman of the Central Election Commission Mazahir Panahov.
