ARMENIA KEEN ON AIDING KATRINA HURRICANE VICTIMS

The Armenian government has stated its readiness to assist the victims
of a recent deadly Katrina hurricane that swept through the United
States. Armenian foreign minister Vardan Oskanian has forwarded a
written appeal to the US embassy in Yerevan in this regard, according
to Armenian reports.
Earlier, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev approved allocation of
$500,000 in emergency aid for the calamity survivors. US Secretary
of State Condoleezza Rice expressed her appreciation to Azerbaijan
for the assistance.
Some Armenian opposition sources criticized this country's government
for allocating assistance to U.S. four days after Azerbaijan's move.*
