    September 9, 2005 Friday

One million banknotes and coins of the unrecognised Nagorno-Karabakh
republic's currency - Karabakh dram - are issued, the Armenian Central
Bank's head Tigran Sarkisyan said here.

The decision to issue Karabakh drams was taken by the Nagorno-Karabakh
    government.

In fact, the money is of numismatic collection value, however,
formally is can be used for payment also in Armenia, Sarkisyan said.

Models of the new currency already spread all over the world and
aroused great interest among collectors before the issue, noted the
Central Bank chairman, who also heads the all-Armenia Academy of
    Philately and Numismatics.

It acquaints millions of people with Nagorno-Karabakh, he said.

Nagorno-Karabakh uses Armenia's currency - Armenian dram - for more
    than 12 years already.

Nagorno-Karabakh Deputy Economy and Finance Minister Narine Azatyan
said in Stepanakert that the Karabakh money was issued as two-dram
    and ten-dram banknotes and one-dram, five-dram and 50-lum coins.
Issue of notes of other value is not planned for far.
