South Caucasus will find itself in focus of the international
community and media: parliamentary election will be held in Azerbaijan,
constitutional reforms referendum is to be conducted in Armenia. In
a way, we all will witness a unique competition between Armenian
and Azerbaijan.
The core of the competition will be the level of democracy of the
two countries and their will to build standards that are in line with
international standards.
No doubt, the competition between the countries of the region goes
on in several areas: economic, military, political, scientific and
cultural. But most important is the competition in the political
area. Political maturity is a powerful stimulus for economic growth
and a strong guarantee for national security.
By adopting a constitution based on European standards, this society
would gain an advantage in the regional competition because we would
have a new state with entirely new possibilities for our security
and national aspirations.
