Vice-President Bhairon Singh Shekhawat will embark on goodwill visits
to Romania, Belarus and Armenia from October 1.
The Government of Romania has recently backed India's bid for permanent
membership of the United Nation Security Council(UNSC) , calling it a
"natural contender" for the body.
India has welcomed Romania's proposed accession to the European Union
in 2007, which is likely to open new vistas for Indian businessmen
in the region. With this step, Romania could become a bridgehead for
Indian companies in central Europe.
Promotion of travel and tourism sectors are being cited as the
new thrust areas in the relations between India and Romania. There
is considerable scope to expand bilateral trade that is currently
estimated to be about 73 million dollars.
Armenia has shown interest to promote economic ties with India,
following a two years ago agreement of a pact by industry chambers
of both countries to bolster trade.
Belarus, which has been a part of the former Soviet Union, plan
to expand and diversify trade and economic cooperation with India
in fields like chemicals, drugs and pharmaceuticals, Information
Technology, telecom and power. (ANI)
