RUSSIA AND GEORGIA SIGNED AN AGREEMENT CONCERNING THE ORDER OF STAND DOWN OF RUSSIAN MILITARY BASES

Up to the 1st of October 2007, the Russian military base, which is
deployed in Akhalkalaki, will be brought out, as it was reported in
Sochi to the journalists by Chief of the Ground Forces of the Russian
Federation Colonel General Alexander Maslov. On Friday, Russia and
Georgia signed an agreement concerning the order of the stand-down
of the Russian military bases.
"During 2008, we will bring out RMB in Batumi and the administration
of the Group of the Russian troops in Transcaucasia, which are deployed
on the territory of Georgia".
"This agreement determined the order of giving visas to the people,
who will do tasks on the territory of Georgia, or who will serve on
its territory, and they will be placed on detached service for tasks
which are connected with stand-down", said Maslov. He defined the
second agreement signed to be rather important. It is connected with
the transit of military cargo and personnel to supply the 102nd base
which is located on the territory of Armenia.
"As far as the military aspect is concerned, the major material
of armament will be brought to the territory of Russia", remarked
Maslov. The part of equipment that will be transported to the territory
of Armenia for "replenishment of the deficiency of equipment. This
will be mainly connected with material and automobiles", he
added. "Everything that has been decided in Istanbul will be
fulfilled", underlines Chief of the Ground Forces of the Russian
Federation.
