Today attorney Nazeli Vardanyan and representative of the Ministry
of Defense Hayk Demoyan thanked the journalists for more than two
years of joint work and for descent conduct, which contributed to
such outcome of the trial.
To remind, on April 13 the City Court of Budapest sentenced Azeri
Officer Ramil Safarov, who murdered Armenian Officer Gurgen Margaryan,
to life imprisonment.
The decent demeanor of the Armenian side was highly appreciated also
in Hungary.
The criminal is taking his punishment in a strict-security camp. Even
in case he gets pardon in 30 years, he will not have the right to
access Hungary for additional 10 years.
Attorney Nazeli Vardanyan went into details of April 4 and April
13 court hearings. The attorney brought a civil action, demanding
reimbursement of moral and substantial damage.
During the last court hearing the Armenian attorneys presented
mediation, calling the Court's attention to the fact of declaring
Ramil Safarov "man of the year" in Azerbaijan. The Court responded it
does not recognize the culture of a country, which can name a murderer
"man of the year."
Immediately after announcing the verdict, the Azeri propaganda started,
spreading disinformation that the Prosecutor demanded 30 years of
imprisonment, not a life sentence. Nevertheless, Safarov will carry
his punishment in a Hungarian Court under strict security.
In the attorney's words, Safarov has no chances even in case of
appeal. The Hungarian Court of Appeal does not carry out additional
investigation.
