ENTRANTS VERY OFTEN LEARN SUBJECT BY HEART, CHAIRMAN OF "ARMENIAN HISTORY" SUBJECT COMMISSION SAYS

    Noyan Tapan
    Aug 10 2006

YEREVAN, AUGUST 10, NOYAN TAPAN. The level of entrants' readiness for
the "Armenian History" subject is, in general, middle this year. Edik
Gevorgian, the subject commission chairman informed the Noyan Tapan
    correspondent about it.

He disproved the opinion existing among entrants and parents that
the commission makes marks lower even for spelling and punctuation
mistakes, for crossings out. According to E.Gevorgian, the point is
usually made lower in the cases of mistakes in facts, dates, missing
events. E.Gevorgian mentioned that the tests were formed exclusively
based on school text-books. According to him, when being trained
by tutors, children often use text-books for higher educational
institutions and even academic ones. In this case, according to
E.Gevorgian, "the main very often is mixed with the secondary one,"
and as a result, the entrant may have additional knowledge but not
    know the main material.

According to his observation, some entrants even learn the subject by
heart, what is inadmissible. It is proved particularly by questions
like those "Which question of the test is it?" or "With which sentence
does this question start," which we listen during the exams. According
to the subject commission chairman's estimation, the written form of
holding the entrance exam exhausted itself. According to E.Gevorgian,
both school text-books and tests need serious changes as well.
