US MEDIATOR URGES SIDES TO KARABAKH CONFLICT TO MAKE COMPROMISE
ANS Radio, Baku
30 Aug 06
[Presenter] Progress in the talks on the settlement of the Nagornyy
Karabakh conflict is possible, US co-chair of the OSCE Minsk Group
Matthew Bryza has said. Bryza has said that a road map plan is on
the table of negotiations. He thinks that the main problem is the
readiness of the sides to make compromises.
[Matthew Bryza speaking in Russian with Azeri voice-over] We shall meet
soon in Europe to study positions of the ministers. I have recently
been to Azerbaijan and Armenia and observed constructive positions of
the sides. I believe that we can achieve progress in the talks. But
it will depend on ideas the presidents are to propose. The principles
proposed by the co-chairmen are on the table of negotiations and this
plan can be called a road map. These are our best principles.
Now we are expecting proposals from the presidents and the public. I
believe that the sides will compromise because it is the only way for
the settlement of the conflict. There is no military solution to the
settlement of the Nagornyy Karabakh conflict.
