HIS HOLINESS ARAM I RECEIVES THE
    NEW BRITISH AMBASSADOR TO LEBANON

The newly appointed Ambassador of the United Kingdom of Great Britian and
Northern Ireland, Mrs. Francis Guy, paid her first visit to His Holiness
    Aram I in Antelias.

Following a brief acquaintance period, the Catholicos and the Ambassador
discussed the current regional and international developments in the
political arena, particularly in light of the recent developments in the
    Middle East.

The Pontiff expressed his viewpoints on the coexistence of nations,
communities and religions. He considered a comprehensive approach to be
essential to the current political situation in Lebanon and examined the
unique traits of each religion and the possible common grounds for their
    cooperation.

His Holiness Aram I considered religion to have an indispensable role to a
lasting solution of the conflicts in the Middle East, stressing the
importance of giving it a dominant presence and power. In this context he
spoke about the stages in the development of the Christian-Muslim dialogue,
considering it had come a long way in Lebanon.

The Pontiff said that the current situation in Lebanon has an exclusively
political nature and needs political solutions with mutual concessions and
understanding. In this respect he highlighted the importance of elevating
the chief interests of Lebanon above all other gains.

Ambassador Francis greeted the Armenian Spiritual Leader's realistic
assessments and approaches, assuring him that a constant contact will be
established between the Embassy and the Catholicosate of Cilicia with
    prospects for future cooperation.
