On December 15, in the UN House in Yerevan, Mrs. Naira Melkoumian,
Executive Director of the "Hayastan All-Armenian Fund and Ms.
Consuelo Vidal, UNDP resident representative in Armenia signed a
memorandum of understanding that marked the start of the first joint
project - construction of a boiler house and heating transmission
channels for the Reanimation Department at the Nork Hospital for
Infectious Diseases in Yerevan. The "Hayastan" Fund has already
conducted a tender.
"Hayastan" Fund and the UNDP have jointly provided $26000 for the
project.
This is not the first project the Fund is implementing in the
hospital. In September 2006, the reanimation division was opened with
participation of Brazilian donors. In 2005 the Fund carried out
another project in this hospital again through Brazilian community
funds.
Mrs. Naira Melkoumian, in her answers to the journalists' questions,
mentioned that the reconstruction works in the hospital will be
launched in spring of 2007.
Ms. Vidal noted: "This is our first joint project and we are sure it
will not be the last one. We strongly believe that through joining
our efforts we will be able to achieve much more in our fight against
poverty in the country".
The "Hayastan" Fund and UNDP collaborate also in Rural Communities
Development Project. On October 2006, the organizations signed a
memorandum of understanding to closely cooperate in this area.
