GENERAL CONCEPT OF EDUCATION TO BE ELABORATED BY SPRING 2007

YEREVAN, December 21. /ARKA/. A general concept of education is to be
elaborated in Armenia by next spring, RA Minister of Education and
Science Levon Mkrtichyan told reporters. He said that the Ministry
has received an $800,000 grant from USAID.
He said that three major tasks are to be accomplished.
"Firs of all we intend to conduct monitoring of legislation and
harmonize all the legal documents on education," he said.
The Minister reported that the RA Education Code is to be reformed
within the next three months.
Speaking of the second major task, Mkrtichyan pointed out that next
spring the quality of education is to be assessed in conformity with
international standards.
"International experts will assess the level of pre-school, school,
and specialized secondary education," he said.
The Minister also stated that the final stage envisages the elaboration
of a concept in the country.
"This will help us clearly determine the ways of developing education
in Armenia, urgent problems and ways of resolving them," Mkrtichyan
said.
