YERVAND ZAKHARYAN: THE MAYOR OF YEREVAN SHOULD BE MEMBER OF A PARTY

"I'm confident that henceforth the Mayor of Yerevan should be member
of a party. After the elections of 2007 all positions should be
politicized," Yervan Zakharyan, the Mayor of Yerevan, member of the
Republican Party of Armenia, said in a press conference today. He
noted that he must not definitely remain Mayor after the elections,
but the official should not be without party affiliation, since the
party assumes responsibility for the activity of the government and
economic programs during the given period.
"During the past 3-4 years most of government members have been
Republicans.
The Republican Party has been and remains the main driving force,
and I think it correct to be a Republican and from now on I should
accomplish all the recommendations and programs the Republican Party
finds proper," said Yervand Zakharyan.
