ROBERT KOCHARIAN MEETS WITH MAHMOUD AHMADINEJAD IN TEHRAN

TEHRAN, JULY 6, NOYAN TAPAN - ARMENIANS TODAY. Armenian
President Robert Kocharian's two-day visit to Iran started on July
5. According to radio Liberty, it is planned that the main subject of
Armenian-Iranian meetings will become the Iran-Armenia gas pipeline
being built.
It is planned to finish the construction of the first sector of the
gas pipeline with a length of 41 km and amounting to 124 mln USD
in early 2007 and the issue of the second sector's construction and
Russian side's participation in it will become the subject of Robert
Kocharian's and Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's meeting.
First Kocharian and Ahmadinejad met tete-a-tete, then the negotiations
went on in an extended format.
Ahmadinejad received the Armenian President at the presidential
residence.
The Iranian President said that the meeting can be a new step for
continuation of Armenian-Iranian contacts.
Robert Kocharian, in his turn, expressed an opinion that their
meeting can be really a success for deepening the relations between
the two countries.
In the second half of the day Kocharian also met with Iranian Foreign
Minister Manouchehr Mottaki.
RA Foreign Minister Vartan Oskanian, Head of the President's Staff,
Co-chairman of the Armenian-Iranian Intergovernmental Commission Armen
Gevorgian are included in the delegation led by the Armenian President.
