YEREVAN, July 11. /ARKA/. Elections that meet democratic standards
are important, first and foremost, for Armenia's progress.

The press service and public relations department of the Armenian
Government reported that Head of the OSCE Office in Yerevan, Ambassador
Vladimir Pryakhin stated during the meeting with Armenian Speaker
    Tigran Torosyan.

Pryakhin also pointed out that the OSCE is ready to assist Armenia
with the reforms in the Electoral Code and implementation of democratic
    elections.

In his turn, Torosyan pointed out that in the mid of July-August the
parliament will ascertain the positions of Armenia's political forces.

According to him, the EC will be introduced and passed by the
    parliament in October.

The Speaker pointed out that implementation of elections that meet
the international standards requires not only reforms in legislation,
but also creation of a favorable atmosphere by the opposition and
power and also development of responsibility mechanisms.

The Armenian Speaker highly appreciated the OSCE's efforts concerning
the expert evaluations and independent observation, and expressed a
hope that the elections in Armenia will be held at a new level.

The next elections in Armenia will be held in 2007 (parliamentary)
    and 2008 (presidential). R.O. -0--
