DEMOCRATIC ARMENIA UNION INITIATES SIGNATURE COLLECTION IN DEFENCE OF JOHN
EVANS' RECALL
YEREVAN, JULY 17, NOYAN TAPAN. The Democratic Armenia union has
initiated signature collection in defence of recall of Ambassador
of U.S. to Armenia John Evans. Narine Mkrtchian, Chairwoman of the
National Press Club, declared at the July 17 press conference.
According to her, an abrupt retreat from the democratization
process has been registered in Armenia, which is evidence that
the U.S. policy aimed at development of democracy in Armenia has
failed. The Democratic Armenia union considers that Ambassador John
Evans, U.S. Embassy in Armenia, as well as the organizations called
up for promoting development of democracy in Armenia with the funds
of American tax-payers are to blame for this failure.
The union calls on the U.S. Senate to accelerate the process of
change of the U.S. Ambassador to Armenia and the American Armenian
organizations to contribute to the next Ambassador's being devoted
to democratic principles.
According to Narine Mkrtchian, over 100 signatures have been collected,
some political parties have also joined the process of signature
collection.
