    NINE WELL-KNOWN THEATER FIGURES ARE CONFERED HONORARY TITLES

    YEREVAN, JUNE 29, NOYAN TAPAN. By the RA President's decree, nine
    well-known Armenian theater figures were confered honorary titles for
    the significant contribution put in the sphere of theatrical art and
    on the occasion of the International Day of Theater. Hasmik Poghosian,
    the RA Minister of Culture and Youth Issues handed them certificates
    and rewards of honorary titles on June 27.

    Opera singer Barsegh Tumanian was confered title of the RA People's
    Artist.

    Hovhannes Babakhanian and Hrant Tokhatian, actors of the Yerevan
    Hrachia Ghaplanian Dramatic Theater and the State Chamber Theater
    were awarded title of the RA Honoured Artist. Derenik Martirosian,
    an actor of the State Puppet Theater after Hovhannes Tumanian, Lala
    Mnatsakanian, an acress of the "Mher Mkrtchian" Artistic Theater and
    Karen Sargsian, the chief conductor of the Alexander Spendiarian
    Opera and Ballet National Academic Theater were also confered the
    same title. Theater critic Varsenik Grigorian and Hakob Ghazanchian,
    the artistic head and director of the Yerevan Young Spectators'
    Theater were confered titles of the RA Honoured Art Figure, and Grisha
    Sahakian, the main painter of the same theater was confered title of
    the RA Honoured Culture Figure.

    According to Yervand Ghazanchian, the Chairman of the Theater Figures'
    Union of Armenia, the artistic head of the Hakob Paronian State Music
    Comedy Theater, getting a title seems to sum up some period of an
    artist's life, stimulating him to act more ardent and responsible in
    future. He expressed a hope that in future as well many deserving
    artists will be confered such titles and will continue history of
    the Armenian theater with their creative activity.
