GOVERNMENT REVOKES PREVIOUS DECISION ALLOCATING LAND FOR CONSTRUCTION OF HOTEL COMPLEX

YEREVAN, MARCH 7, ARMENPRESS: Bowing to a massive public outcry
the government has revoked today its decision on alienation of a 25
hectare space near a botanical garden in Yerevan for construction of
    a hotel complex.

A deputy parliament member Manuk Gasparian, who was in the forefront
of a campaign to stop the construction of the hotel, said today the
decision to stop the construction had been made by prime minister
Margarian personally. He said president Kocharian also played
a role. Gasparian argued that neither the prime minister nor the
president of the National Academy of Sciences that owns the land area
were aware of what kind of a decision they signed because they were
assured that the land area in question was occupied by a dump.

Gasparian said apart from preserving 60 hectares of the botanical
garden the government has pledged to release money for reconstruction
    of the garden's irrigation system.
