Yerevan, 15 March: Azerbaijani soldiers have definitively destroyed the
Armenian cemetery in Old Jugha in the Azerbaijani exclave of Naxcivan,
the press service of the Armenian Foreign Ministry has told Arminfo
news agency.
About 3,500 of the 10,000 cross-stones that had existed earlier were
completely destroyed, and their fragments were taken away from the
cemetery. It cannot be ruled out that the [Azerbaijani] authorities
intend to transform the territory of the cemetery into a training
ground.
To recap, Armenian Foreign Minister Vardan Oskanyan had earlier applied
to UNESCO Director-General Koichiro Matsuura over the destruction of
cross-stones and gravestones in the Armenian cemetery in Old Jugha.
