The Armenian Armed Forces are always combat ready, Armenian Deputy
Defense Minister Major General Artur Agabekyan told reporters on
Tuesday.
"We are ready to repulse any enemy attack, be it a low-intensity or
a large-scale one," Agabekyan noted.
Commenting on the situation on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border and
Azerbaijani statements, alleging that Armenian servicemen breached
cease-fire, he said that firefights had indeed become more frequent
on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border recently and that they were
primarily caused by the Azerbaijani saber-rattling, as well as spring
construction activities in the borderline areas.
"The Armenian side does not usually fire back, but if Azerbaijani
fire was aimed directly at our positions, we had to return fire,"
Agabekyan said.
The Azerbaijani Defense Ministry has recently been alleging on a daily
basis that the Armenian side has breached cease-fire by firing upon
Azerbaijani borderline positions.
The Armenian Defense Ministry has daily been refuting Azerbaijani
allegations.
