THE GENERAL SECRETARY OF MECC
VISITS HIS HOLINESS ARAM I
His Holiness Aram I met with the General Secretary of the Middle East
Council of Churches (MECC), Dr. Gerges Saleh, in Antelias on November 20.
Dr. Saleh briefed the Catholicos on the activities of MECC during the last
few months particularly in the fields of social service and Christian-Muslim
dialogue. He consulted His Holiness on a number of issues and projects
related to the Council.
His Holiness Aram I praised the activities of the MECC. He emphasized,
however, that the Council should not expand its work field and should focus
instead on a number of principal issues directly related to the life of
churches.
His Holiness added that the reorganization of MECC has become an imperative
priority in light of the contemporary challenges and circumstances. He
pointed out that such an initiative requires setting up clear-cut
priorities, reshuffling the administrative structure, decreasing the number
of employees and limiting the budget.
The Catholicos made several remarks in this context based on his own
experience.
