Celebrations on the occasion of the 15th anniversary of the Nagorno
Karabakh Republic's declaration were held in Nagorno Karabakh.
According to the information DE FACTO received at the NKR MFA Press
Service, September 1 a solemn meeting was held with the participation
of the representatives of the NKR leadership and public, as well
as numerous guests from Armenia, Russia, Abkhazia, South Ossetia,
Transdnestr and Armenian Diaspora. Speaking at the solemn meeting, the
NKR President Arkady Ghoukasyan noted under the present conditions
independence was the only way to preserve the Nagorno Karabakh
Armenians.
"To remind, the NKR was declared no Armenian being outside Nagorno
Karabakh on the territory of the Azeri SSR. The Azeri leadership
isolated Nagorno Karabakh from the world, having surrounded the region,
and then imposed a blockade on it. 15 years affirmed the historical
necessity and legitimate nature of the act on the Nagorno Karabakh
Republic's declaration", Arkady Ghoukasyan noted.
In his turn the NKR National Assembly Chair Ashot Gulyan stated, "The
official document on the NKR's declaration informed the whole world
that the Artsakh Armenians have become the masters of their fate".
"The establishment of the Nagorno Karabakh Republic as a national state
was the request of the time", stressed the NKR Parliament Speaker.
RA President Robert Kocharyan, the head of the Armenian Apostolic
Church Catholicos of All Armenians Garegin II, RA FM Vardan Oskanyan,
first deputy to the RA Defense Minister, colonel general Mikael
Harutyunyan sent congratulatory messages in connection with the 15th
anniversary of the Nagorno Karabakh Republic's declaration. The U. S.
Congressmen Frank Pallone, Joe Knollenberg, RF State Duma deputy, CIS
Institute Director Constantine Zatoulin, the U. S. first Ambassador
to Armenia Harry Gilmor also congratulated the Artsakh people on
the event.
The measures dedicated to the 15th anniversary of the NKR's declaration
involved the whole Republic. A collection of stamps and a book-album
was published in Armenian, Russian and English, about 500 medals were
issued. The first lesson in the schools was dedicated to the holiday.
The exhibition of the artists from Nagorno Karabakh and Armenia,
sport and cultural measures were held in Stepanakert. The festivities
ended in firework.
