YEREVAN, SEPTEMBER 5, ARMENPRESS: According to deputy trade and
economic development minister Tigran Davtian, around 60-65 percent
of foreign companies present in Armenia are linked one or other way
with Armenian Diaspora.
He said though the vast Armenian Diaspora has been playing an essential
role in advancing Armenian economy, only a small portion of its
overall resources is being used here to promote economic progress.
He said even some of other investments, made here by non-Armenians
are very likely to be mediated by Diaspora Armenians. The aggregate
share of Diaspora's investments here, made largely into small and
medium-sized businesses , is about 25-30 percent, according to the
deputy minister.
Davtian said Diaspora Armenians invest annually in their ancestors'
land some $150-$200 million and though this is a big figure, on local
scale, but it represents only a meager portion of Diaspora's potential.
