Oshin Keshishian, editor-in-chief of "The Armenian Observer" Los
Angeles based newspaper, was the guest of the National Press Club. He
stated that the electronic mass media sources are a serious threat to
the Armenian printed press published in the USA from the viewpoint of
competition. After the influence of the electronic mass media sources
has growth, two Armenian Boston based newspapers closed. While the
existing English language Armenian newspapers are quite authority
ones and time after time even attract the attention of the White House.
Oshin Keshishian believes that the Armenian newspapers of America
follow the rules of the Western journalism, i.e. when highlighting
an event or a material they keep from making any comments. At the
same time he added that the local Armenian newspapers are full of
comments and inadequate statements. Keshishian emphasized that this
is a mere peculiar feature of the local Armenian printed press and
that stands for a definite stage of development.
