"I am sure that we will have a real chance to return the territories,
occupied by Armenia, only through developing of relations with the
West and Azerbaijan's accession to NATO".
The due announcement was made by Alekper Mamedov, chief of the Center
of Democratiñ and Civil Control over armed forces, commenting on
the implementation of the plan of individual partnership between
Azerbaijan and NATO.
He said Turkey can be cited as an example of positive influence of
accession to NATO on the combativity of the armed forces and growth
of country's influence in the world.
"Moreover, by means of accession to NATO, Azerbaijan will prove
its striving for western values, democratization of the country,
establishment of the society, where human rights of each citizens,
freedom of speech and equality of everyone regardless of the occupied
position, are sacred.
However, he said that Azerbaijan have problems in the said spheres
and it is early to speak about Azerbaijan's accession to NATO.
"The work in this direction should be accelerated, otherwise, other
two South Caucasus countries would outstrip us", Mamedov noted.
He said regarding Russia's threats to review relations with everyone
who intends to join NATO that Azerbaijan should be ready for such
provocations and make its choice in favor of western values and
integration with NATO.
"Russia will never stop supporting Armenia, therefore, we should
not hope for its assistance to the just resolution of the Karabakh
conflict", Alekper Mamedov noted.
