REPRESENTATIVE OF ARMENIA YURI PATRIKEYEV GAINS TITLE OF GRECO-ROMAN WRESTLING EUROPE CHAMPION IN TAMPERE

TAMPERE, APRIL 7, NOYAN TAPAN. Greco-Roman Wrestling Europe
Championship finished on April 6 in the city of Tampere, Finland. Among
representatives of Armenia, Roman Amoyan (55 kg, Yerevan) took the
2nd place and gained a silver medal and heavyweight Yuri Patrikeyev
(Yerevan) beat all rivals, took the 1st place, and gained a gold
medal. Y. Patrikeyev, as well as Arman Adikian (66 kg, Etchmiadzin)
as far back as in the World Championship held in 2007 in Baku had
gained a permit to take part in Beijing 2008. In fact the rest 14
freestyle and Greco-Roman wrestling representatives of Armenia, who
performed in Tampere Championship, did not gain a permit to take part
in Beijing 2008.
It should be mentioned that Armen Vardanian (66 kg) from Gyumri
representing the Ukraine also became Europe champion in the Greco-Roman
Wrestling Championship. Another sportsman from Gyumri, vice-champion of
Athens Olympic Games, Ara Abrahamian (74 kg) representing Sweden gained
a bronze medal and Armen Nazarian (60 kg) from Martuni, twice champion
of Olympic Games representing Bulgaria became a silver medal winner.
