Turkmenistan does not recognize the Nagornyy Karabakh republic's right
for independence from Azerbaijan. Turkmenistan's defence minister,
Agageldi Mammetgeldiyew, currently on a visit to Baku, has stated his
country's official position on this issue, Azerbaijan's Trend [news]
agency reported.
"Turkmenistan recognizes Azerbaijan's territorial integrity, and
considers the occupied territory (of Nagornyy Karabakh) as Azerbaijan's
integral part," Mammetgeldiyew said.
Never in the past had Turkmenistan's officials clearly stated their
position on this issue.
