ArmInfo. Today speaker of the Armenian parliament Tigran Torosyan
met an Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Serbia to
Armenia Liliana Bachevich, having arrived in Armenia to take part
in inauguration ceremony of the newly elected president of Armenia
Serzh Sarkisyan.
As ArmInfo was informed, over the meeting Tigran Torosyan was
surprised that fraternal Serbia had voted "for" the resolution
on Nagornyy Karabakh suggested by Azerbaijan in the UN General
Assembly. Touching on the context of such a decision connected
with the Kosovo problem Tigran Torosyan said that traditionally the
relations between the two states were more flexible - Armenia treated
the Kosovo problem with understanding just the same way as Serbia -
the Karabakh problem. Tigran Torosyan wishes the Armenian-Serbian
contacts be more active. He also added that the inter-parliamentary
contacts were not established either and the forthcoming visit of
Serbia's president to Armenia may promote their strengthening.
For her part, Serbia's Ambassador Liliana Bachevich touched on
the problems that the people of Serbia should overcome because
of Kosovo independence. As for voting in UN, she said it was a
very inconvenient moment and unpleasant incidents often happen in
such situations. She hopes that the incident will not affect the
Armenian-Serbian inter-state relations.
