YEREVAN, April 9. /ARKA/. The new Armenian Government will be formed
next week, RA NA (National Assembly) Speaker Tigran Torosian reported.
"On the initiative of RA President Serge Sargsian, a new political
coalition has been formed and the future Prime Minister's candidacy
has been approved," Torosian said during his meeting with Head of
the Czech Senate Przhemisl Sobotka.
The country's ruling Republican Party's Board, which has a commanding
vote in the Armenian parliament, on Tuesday made a unanimous decision
to appoint CBA Chairman Tigran Sargsian as RA Prime Minister.
According to the RA Constitution, the President of the Republic shall
appoint the Prime Minister within ten days after acceptance of the
resignation of the Government. The Government shall be formed within
20 days after the appointment of the Prime Minister.
Sobotka said he was pleased to see that life in Armenia had got
settled after the March 1 clashes in Yerevan.
Since February 20 rallies, sit-ins and student walkouts had been held
by the opposition led by Armenia's first President Levon Ter-Petrosian
in the center of Yerevan. The initiators and protesters accused
Kocharyan's ally and Prime Minister Serge Sargsian of rigging the
presidential election on February 19.
Mass disturbances began on March 1-2 when authorities used force to
clear Freedom Square of thousands of demonstrators who had camped
there for the past 10 days. Eight people died and about 256 were
injured in the clashes.
